Vote Banks and Communal Riots Deadly Mix For Samajwadi Party

Last month, during a rally organised on the death anniversary of Kanshiram, the founder of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati, said that 18 riots have already occurred during the tenure of the Samajwadi Party (SP) in the last 6 months. It indicates the poor law and order situation in the State. “During my regime, I didn’t allow any riot to happen. During my tenure the historical verdict for the birth place of Ram was also declared by the High Court. We were successful in maintaining communal harmony during such a sensitive time and on such a sensitive issue”, Mayawati said adding that “ although we have lost the elections, but after 6 months the public is missing the legal system of our time”. Even if the Samajwadians do not agree with this, the public is indeed missing the legal system of the Mayawati Government. This has been proved through, for example, the riots that recently occurred in Faizabad.
As soon as the SP Government comes to power in the State, the Samajwadians start creating disturbances. The legal system gets damaged. All these things have the worst impact on communal harmony. This happened during the previous Governments of the SP and this time too the trend is same. During the 8 months the SP Government has been in power, 8 major riots and approximately 21 minor communal riots have occurred. If all these riots had not been suppressed with the help of people who are aware of the consequences of communal disharmony, then the present communal ambience of the State would have been much worse. Many people have lost their lives in these communal riots. Properties worth crores were also destroyed due to which businesses also got affected. Due to these riots, the ruling party and the Opposition party are giving their respective logic and making allegations against each other. It is also being said that the information system of the Government has failed. The officials did not properly perform their responsibilities. The inexperience of the officials also proved costly in some of the riot prone areas and Faizabad is at the top among those districts. The District Magistrates who were appointed in Faizabad have already failed in previous occasions. Regarding Faizabad the Director General of Police (DGP) have already said that if the police administration had shown alertness then the riots could have been stopped. At the same time nobody should hesitate in saying that the Home Secretary, the DGP and the Chief Secretary of the State didn’t perform their duties properly either. These officials haven’t paid attention to the information given by the Central Intelligence Bureau about the presence of disorderly elements in the State.
Violence can never be supported and communal violence is an unforgivable stain on the face of society. Due to this, divisions are created in society. The most astonishing thing is the Masjids of Faizabad from where flowers used to be showered once, have today come under the grip of communal riots. Faizabad is associated with such glory that in 1992, when the entire country was under the grip of communal riots, there was peace in Faizabad. It also cannot be ignored that before 2012, Faizabad was considered to be the den of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), but after the 2012 Vidhan Sabha Elections, the whole picture got reversed. Surprisingly, the SP has raised its flag in Faizabad. In addition to this, 2 riots occurred in Bareilly. After the ‘Alvida Namaz’ in Lucknow, pandemonium created by a specific class of people was also seen. The way in which the number of communal riots is increasing in the State, it seems that some political powers want to divide society through these riots in order to make profit out of it. As the State is in the grip of riots, the public is unable to find out whose conspiracy is behind these riots. All the political parties are busy proclaiming themselves to be innocent and declaring that the other parties are the culprits.

The way in which the SP Government is reacting, it seems they are victims of frustration. If the SP Government feels that the Opposition leaders and bureaucrats are responsible for the violence that is spreading in the State and the electricity problem, then it should take action against them. They have their own investigation agency. With the help of investigation agencies,  Akhilesh Yadav is capable of finding the elements who are spreading communal violence in the State and reveal the conspiracy of the Opposition. At the same time, he also should introspect and ask himself whether there is something wrong in his strategies.

Senior Leader and Minister of the SP, Shivpal Yadav, State Spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary and all the other leaders of the State are saying the same thing : that the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) are responsible for these riots. The SP is in power : as the Government is under it and the leaders are saying this, we should consider that their statements to be without basis. There must be something true in them. In that case, questions will definitely rise : if the BJP and the RSS are responsible for the riots, then why is the Government not taking up any investigations against them ? The SP is repeatedly saying that since the SP has come to power, the anti-social elements are trying to rupture the ambience of the State. By ignoring the Akhilesh Yadav’s fight against corruption and development agendas, these elements are taking the help of riots and disorders to destroy the legal system of the State to vilify the SP Government. The SP and its Government are aware of such anti-social elements and it will not allow them to succeed in their motives. It is also tragic that the SP points out the communal tendencies of the BJP but it covers up its own politics of appeasement. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has got a bad law and order situation and a corrupt system through legacy. Despite this he is seriously engaged in developmental works in the State. The capital from outside the State will flow in according to a peaceful atmosphere in the State, industries will grow and a spirit of self dependence will flourish among the public. Those who have only done stone marketing in the name of development during a five year tenure, did not hesitate to collect huge commission for the stone statues and paralysed the police administration in all possible ways, are not able to digest the development agenda of the SP.
If we talk about the BJP then it is blamed due to its politics of communalism. Likewise, the SP is blamed for its appeasement policy. In such a case, no one can be given a ‘clean chit’. As far as the State Government is concerned, to keep the records clean, it often gives such statements. It has become a common practice for the SP and its leaders to blame the leaders of the BSP. The SP Government is not ready to accept that it is because the BSP was unsuccessful that it created the way of ‘power’ for the SP. By blaming the previous Government, the SP Government will not fulfill its responsibilities. It also cannot be ignored that when the problem of electricity was at its peak, then a similar kind of reaction came from the Government. The Government targeted some bureaucrats by saying that these bureaucrats are BSP-friendly and they do not want that the electricity arrangement of the State gets better. The SP Chief Mulayam Singh had also warned the bureaucrats who are responsible for the electricity problem to change their attitude.
This is necessary because it can expose the persons who are behind the conspiracies against the Government and also can help in improving the image of the party. Seven such incidents have occurred in 8 months in which the Administration had to resort to curfew to control the situation.
It is also being seen that the officials of the Uttar Pradesh Government are not following the orders of Akhilesh Yadav. After the Ghaziabad riots, the Chief Minister had ordered that from now, if riots occur in any district of the State, then action will be taken against the DM, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and the Superintendent of Police (SP) of the respective district, but unfortunately it didn’t happen. After the communal insanity that occurred during the immersion of the Durga idol in Faizabad, the DM and the SSP were blamed for it.
In public fora, SP Chief Mulayam Singh has thanked Muslims several times for their help in forming the SP Government. From the attitude of Mulayam it seems that only the Muslims have voted them to power. But this is not the reality. When Mulayam felicitates the Muslims for the SP Government, then Muslim leaders like Ahmed Bukhari, the Imam of Jama Masjid, come forward to take advantage of the situation. Ahmed Bukhari is very eager to bring his family members into politics. When opportunity arises, he never fails to warn the SP that if we can crown you then we can also snatch away the crown. It seems the SP Government is more worried about the Centre then the country and they are busy in preparations for the 2014 Lok sabha Elections. It seems that they do not worry about other classes of society. That is why the State is gradually heading towards anarchism, whereas none of these things were seen during the tenure of the BSP Government. The investigations against people who take law in their hands are done without caring about their caste and fraternity. The BSP Supremo never had any worry about the Muslims or about the saffron cadres, but the SP is not able to do this due to their politics of vote banks, which sooner or later can prove to be deadly for the SP.

Who Said What?

By blaming the SP Government for the communal riots that took place in the State, the Ex- President of the BJP and Ex- Chief Minister, Rajnath Singh said that whenever the SP Government comes o power, the rate of riots increases. The reason behind this is the policy of appeasement of the Government. BJP Vice President Vinay Katiyar made allegations that people are running away not only from Faizabad, but from the other places where riots have occurred. According to Government instructions, the police administration is undertaking one-sided investigations. He also said that the intentions of the Government are not good. The BJP leaders are prevented from going to the riots prone areas, whereas the SP leaders are seen to roam freely in those areas. He also alleged that the SP wants to win the Lok Sabha Elections by fomenting riots. The BJP will protest against all this so that the public gets to know the reality.
The State President of the Congress, Nirmal Khatri has alleged that both the SP and the BJP are responsible for the riots. He said that both the parties take the help of communlism for increasing their vote banks. That is why whenever the SP or the BJP come into power, the rate of riots increases. The Congress never preferred the politics of casteism. Their politics is always for growth and development.
The State President of the BSP, Swami Prasad Maurya, while blaming the Government for the riots said that to hide its failures, the Government is throwing the State into the fire of riots. To divert the attention of the public from the deteriorating law and order situation in the State and the vandalism of the SP leaders, the SP Government is engineering these riots.
