Jon Favreau directorial live-action remake of the 1994 classic ‘ The Lion King’ has opened to a terrific first-day collection at the Indian box office. Disney’s remake of the much loved animated film was expected to pull in the crowd to the screens. The opening day collections of the film are the sixth-highest ever for a Hollywood release in India.
According to the latest report on the Boxofficeindia.com, on Friday, the film has managed to collect a total of Rs 10.75 crore on its first day at the box office. It is the eighth film from Hollywood to hit double digits on opening day and also just collected a little better than Jon Favreau’s previous flick ‘The Jungle Book’.
The film released in 2140 screens across India in four different languages – English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telegu. The Hindi version of the film is dubbed by Shah Rukh Khan has given his voice to Mufasa, while his son Aryan Khan makes an entry into the film world by voicing the protagonist character Simba. Sunidhi Chauhan and Armaan Malik have sung for the Hindi version.
Despite having several Bollywood films at the box office as well as few Hollywood titles, ‘The Lion King’ has successfully emerged with a clear victory on its opening day and is expected to maintain a winning streak in the weekends as well. The film has opened to good reviews and has been successful to take the audience a trip down the memory lane.
Several Hollywood personalities like Donald Glover, Beyonce Knowles, Seth Rogen, Alfre Woodard, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Billy Eichner, John Kani, and John Oliver have lent their voice to the original Hollywood version of the film. ‘The Lion King’ hit the screens on July 19.
