Sonakshi Sinha : ACTING WAS NEVER PART OF THE PLAN

acting-was-never-part-of-thIt demanded a ‘Dabangg’ lass to dare share the screen with Salman Khan, and get away with her share of fame! Sonakshi, the quintessential daddy’s girl, not only enlivened the screen with her ‘hatke’ looks but also matched the impactful screen presence of Salman Khan with her charm. Post her debut, she has shot for multiple projects opposite Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh.
Last year, Sonakshi Sinha starred in ‘Rowdy Rathore’, which turned out to be the first blockbuster of 2012. Her subsequent release ‘Joker’ bombed at the box-office. She was also seen in B.O hits, ‘Son of Sardaar’ and ‘Dabangg 2’. Sonakshi kicked off 2013 with ‘Lootera’ opposite Ranveer Singh. I was very keen on fashion designing, but destiny had other plans for me. I plan to do something in fashion when I get some time off from acting.

‘In college I was hugely overweight. But when I lost those extra 30 kilos, I was coaxed by Salman uncle to take a look at the script. Once I did, it was too exciting to let go of the offer. I suppose it’s not that I was averse to acting. It was just that there was nothing exciting to make an effort for,’ says Sonakshi Sinha. Sonakshi says she is not comfortable wearing a bikini on screen.
‘It’s a complete no-no to bikini because I am not that kind of a person. I have been bought up in a certain way. I have certain restrictions that I follow and I don’t see any reason to change it because if the audience has accepted me fully clothed, then why would I resort to it?’ says Sonakshi Sinha. Despite her strikingly attractive features, the starlet has faced unwarranted criticism from ‘younger’ actors Ranbir Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor, who believe Sonakshi is too old for them to be paired together in films.

I was very keen on fashion designing, but destiny had other plans for me. I plan to do something in fashion when I get some time off from acting. Maybe start an affordable line for Indian bodies, who ain’t really size zero kinds. Lots of times, I’ve seen young girls find it difficult to get their size clothes. I’ll also ensure that the designs are more suited to our climate. I keep in mind all these factors even while endorsing a brand. As they say, you can take a person out of fashion, but not the style sense out of the person,’

Sonakshi Sinha says her family has given her freedom to choose her kind of films but at the same time she would not do anything to offend them. “My parents have given me enough freedom to choose and do the kind of roles and films I want to do. They know how professional I am… They trust me. They know I will not do anything that will offend them,” Sonakshi told us. Her comment comes in wake of reports that her mother Poonam Sinha used to come on the sets and was sceptical of the intimate scenes with her co-star Ranveer Singh in ‘Lootera’. “My mom never came on set for that particular scene. You can say what you want to by using my name but there is no need to drag my family. If it happens I will take a stand… I will stand up against it,” she said. She feels all this was done for publicity to grab eyeballs for that particular scene or film.
The actress reveals that her mother used to come on the sets to give food to her, co-stars and director, and that they all loved her. Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, ‘Lootera’, a period romance opposite Ranveer Singh, brought lot of appreciation for Sonakshi. But the 26-year-old seeks advice from her family before signing a film. “I take advice from them whenever I am in doubt. They have been here in the industry for over 30 years, which is really a very long experience. I truly respect their advice… It’s the logical thing to do,” she said. Sonakshi reveals that her mother is her biggest critic, while her father Shatrughan Sinha loves her in all her films.
“My mom is my biggest critic. I know she is one person who is saying it only for my good. My dad loves me in all films,” she said. “If I could have done it much better or if the outfit is not looking good, she will tell me then and there itself. The best part is she is so honest about it. My father thinks everything I do is good only,” she added. Sonakshi’s latest film is ‘Once Upon Ay Time in Mumbaai Dobaara’ alongside Akshay Kumar and Imran Khan.
