Chandigarh 7 Jan: Even after three days of announcement of the dates of assembly elections in Punjab, the Congress elections campaign has not started yet. The party functionaries are eagerly waiting for the Vice-President of AICC Rahul Gandhi to return from his foreign vacation and announce the list of candidates and kick start its poll campaign.
Earlier, the election commission had announced the dates of Punjab assembly elections including four other states. However, Gandhi is scheduled to return on January 9. The state Congress leaders were hoping that after announcement of elections dates Rahul Gandhi will cut short his holiday, but this has not happen and Rahul Gandhi will be coming on prior fixed date.
Ticket seekers and ordinary functionary of the party are unhappy that all other contenders of power in the states have already are in campaign mode and their leaders are holidaying abroad. Such thing does not augur well for a party which is losing one state after another.
Meanwhile state Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh, who has been camping in Delhi, has come to Chandigarh on Thursday evening after long time. Mr. Singh spent Friday here, a number of party colleagues made a beeline to his residence in sector 10.
