‘Queen’ starring Kangana Ranaut and directed by Vikas Bahl hit the screens recently. Here’s what the film is all about…

‘Queen’, directed by Vikas Bahl, tells the story of Rani, her growing up journey and how she rediscovers her identity while on a honeymoon alone. In the movie, Kangana plays Rani, a simple, middle-class Delhi girl whose life is turned upside down when her husband-to-be leaves her stranded at the altar. Rani then decides to go on the honeymoon by herself. Dwelling on her character Kangana told IANS, ‘As a girl, I relate to the character (of Rani) but she has serious issues, like she lacks confidence, she does not have self respect even… Contrary to her, I have never faced such issues in my life… But I do relate to the kind of fighting spirit she has. She never gives up.” Besides Kangana, ‘Queen’ also stars Lisa Haydon and Rajkummar Rao. Lisa Haydon was last seen in ‘Aisha’ and ‘Rascals’ in Bollywood. She’s also done an item number in Telugu film ‘Rachcha’. According to Rajkummar Rao, ‘Queen’ marks Kangana’s best performance so far.
‘It was great working with Kangana. She is really grounded and she is a really sweet person. In this film, she has done a great job,’ Rajkummar said in an interview. Rani’s ‘honeymoon’ takes her to Paris and Amsterdam where she cuts loose. Kangana shot in the much-publicised red light district of Amsterdam for some sequences in ‘Queen’. Kangana collaborated with Vikas Bahl and the team of scriptwriters on the ‘Queen’ screenplay. Music for ‘Queen’ is by Amit Trivedi. Anurag Kashyap has shared editing responsibilities with Abhijit Kokate. Apparently, Vikas Bahl wrote the story with Kangana in mind for the leading part. It was Anurag Kashyap who connected Bahl and the ‘Fashion’ actress. Bollywood celebs who watched the film at a special screening have been impressed. Sonakshi Sinha tweeted: ‘Just watched Queen. Kangana is phenomenal. Vikas what a film you’ve made…’ Richa Chaddha tweeted, ‘Queen is a beautiful beautiful beautiful film…’ At the box-office ‘Queen’ clashes with ‘Total Siyappa’ and ‘Gulaab Gang’.
