The first weekend collections of Anurag Kashyap’s new film ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ were far from encouraging at the box office. It was critically acclaimed by critics but has failed to transfer into box office numbers. A trade expert said that Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs opened to average collections and the first day netted Rs. 3 crores while the remaining two days of the weekend brought in around Rs. 7 crores more. The budget of the film was around Rs. 16 crores. It’s too early to comment on the fate of the movie. The marketing and publicity team of ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ had left no stones unturned in promoting the film, especially through the social networking sites. The film had been appreciated at prestigious global film festivals, so Indian audiences were waiting for its release. However, the response to the film is not as overwhelming as expected. ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ had recovered its cost even before its release, and the collection of the first three days is enough to make it a success, but it’s not sweeping the audiences off their feet like other releases such as ‘Rowdy Rathore’ and ‘Housefull 2’. The film still has ample time to pick up at the box office as no big film is releasing the next week.
