The leading lady of some of the biggest hits of Indian cinema including ‘Kaho Na Pyaar Hai’ and ‘Gadar-Ek Prem Katha’ feels that films by the likes of Anurag Kashyap only work in international film festivals and have no connect with the domestic mass audiences. Ameesha Patel was in Cannes to participate in the market premiere of her latest film ‘Shortcut Romeo’ and walk the famous red carpet at the 66th Cannes Film Festival. When asked if she would like to act in Hollywood films, she said that she would prefer to be a queen in her own country rather than doing bit and insignificant roles in foreign films. She is confident that Bollywood films will soon find a world market and there will come a day when Indian stars will also become popular worldwide. She was quite upbeat about her upcoming film ‘Shortcut Romeo’ and had high praise for its director Susi Ganesh and felt that Hindi remakes of Tamil action films have revived the careers of fading stars like Salman Khan and that should work in favour of her latest film as well. She also added that she was open to all kinds of offers including art house films but films that have mass appeal will be her first choice.
