The makers of ‘Dhoom 3’ have in fact found the pot of gold with the fast-paced action thriller. The Hindi box office business of the Aamir Khan-starrer has crossed the benchmark set by Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘Chennai Express’, which became the biggest grosser by earning Rs.216 crore. Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines told IANS: “‘Dhoom 3’ has collected in the early days around Rs. 211 crore only in Hindi all over India. In other languages, the film has collected around Rs.10 crore.”
The overseas collection of director Vijay Krishna Acharya’s offering is also overwhelming. “As far as overseas collection is concerned, the film early on almost collected around Rs.100 crore, so in totality ‘Dhoom: 3’ collected over Rs.300 crore, which is terrific in nine days,” Thadani said. ‘Dhoom: 3’ won’t face any big competition at the box office till ‘Dedh Ishqiya’, which comes out on January 10, next year.
Along with the Hindi version, the dubbed Tamil and Telugu versions of ‘Dhoom: 3’ were released in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, respectively. Interestingly, in Chennai, more than 50 per cent of the shows are sold out at the very outset for the next three days at major multiplexes. Rakki Cinemas sold about 1,200 tickets for the Tamil version of the film in the opening weekend. “This is the highest number of tickets we have ever sold for a dubbed Hindi film. In fact, we released with equal number of shows in Hindi and Tamil, but the latter superseded by a large margin,” Manoj Kumar, a representative of Rakki cinemas, told us. “Aamir Khan’s presence made a lot of difference,” he added.
